Trusting God, part 13

Chapter 13: Choosing to Trust God
"Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my savior and my God" - Psalm 42:11

"Trusting God is first of all a matter of the will, and is not dependent on my feelings. I choose to trust God and my feelings eventually follow" - Jerry Bridges

"The promises of God MUST be true; surely the Lord will help me, if I am willing to be helped" - John Newton (writer of Amazing Grace)

we are responsible to obey the will of God, but we are dependent upon the Holy Spirit for the enabling power to do it - it is the same thing with trusting God.

"Trusting God does not mean we do not experience pain. It means we believe that God is at work through the occasion of our pain for our ultimate good" - Bridges

Because God will never leave you nor forsake you, you can "cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you" - 1 Peter 5:7

"If it were possible for me to alter any part of his plan I could only spoil it" - John Newton

When we are experiencing times of prosperity or favorable circumstances we show our trust in God by acknowledging Him as the provider of all those blessings - not anything we did or even deserve

Those who trust in the Lord ARE truly safe - those who trust in their wealth/power/position/friends/spouse/good-looks/grades/etc only imagine that they are safe.
